month?\u00a0 Here are some medication reminders to help prepare.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Taking Insulin?\u00a0 Check your glucagon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>If you take insulin, it\u2019s best to have glucagon available in the event of severe hypoglycemia.<\/p>\n\n<p>Glucagon injections, as with all medications, have an expiry.\u00a0 Before school starts is a good time to check your supply to be sure it isn\u2019t expired.<\/p>\n\n<p>Glucagon is now also available in a nasal powder version, called Baqsimi.\u00a0 The nasal spray version is very easy to use (no injection training required) and tends to have a longer expiry date.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Have severe allergies?\u00a0 Check your epinephrine injection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>If you have life-threatening allergies, you likely have been prescribed an epinephrine injection.\u00a0 Before school starts is a good time to check your supply to be sure it isn\u2019t expired, especially if you must leave one at school or the daycare centre.<\/p>\n\n<p>In Canada, there are 3 auto-injection device versions of this:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EpiPen \u2013 in 0.15mg and 0.3mg strengths<\/li>\n<li>Allerject \u2013 in 0.15mg and 0.3mg strengths, with a built-in \u201ctalking box\u201d giving the user directions<\/li>\n<li>Emerade \u2013 in 0.3mg and 0.5mg strengths<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The 0.5mg strength is no typo \u2013 it\u2019s a newer, higher dose version.\u00a0 If you need help to know which strength of epinephrine device you should get, or have coverage question, please contact our Diabetes Depot pharmacist <a href=\"mailto:info@diabetesdepot.ca\">info@diabetesdepot.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Are you a university student?\u00a0 Consider having an \u201cemergency box\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>If you take insulin, you already know it\u2019s a good idea to have glucagon on hand.\u00a0 Just also make sure your housemates or residence friends know when to use it, where you keep it and how to use it, if required.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Here are some other items to consider putting together in an \u201cemergency box\u201d:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you use an insulin pump, extra batteries are always good to have around<\/li>\n<li>First aid supplies \u2013 an inexpensive way to have these items on hand is to get a mini first aid kit from the dollar store<\/li>\n<li>Tweezers \u2013 especially if you are in a tick-prone area or will be making excursions into the woods<\/li>\n<li>Over-the-counter medications such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain \u2013 because when you have a headache is exactly when you don\u2019t want to have to go out to get something for it<\/li>\n<li>Naloxone kit \u2013 even if you do not take recreational drugs, this is something to have on hand that may save someone else\u2019s life.\u00a0 And they are available free from pharmacies.<\/li>\n<li>Flashlight and batteries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Your Diabetes Depot
